Mesach's Story

Pastor Mesach grew up in a broken home and faced many trials before finding comfort in the Lord. He began pastoral ministry in 2018 and has endured competition and conflict among local pastors in Kalogoyi, Buyende. He longs for biblical mentorship and greater confidence in interpreting Scripture. He has said, 'A trained person is not the same as one who lacks training.' He and Bilungi Sarah had been married for seven years and have four children. His modest retail income has made further training difficult.

Prayer Requests and a Remarkable Praise Report

We praise the Lord for His faithfulness to Pastor Mesach and his family through an extraordinarily difficult season. Mesach was involved in a terrible accident that broke his leg and forced him to interrupt his studies at RPI. While he and his wife, Sarah, were away receiving treatment, their home was robbed and their belongings were stolen. His father and other relatives also turned away from him because he refused to participate in practices meant to appease ancestral spirits for his healing. Yet Mesach and Sarah continued trusting the Lord.

Throughout this time, the RPI team prayed for Mesach, stayed in contact with his family, and visited him. He expressed deep appreciation for the encouragement and care, including visits from Pastor Simon and Pastor Ben. In a June 2025 praise report, we learned that he had recovered enough to get back on his feet. After only four weeks of walking again, he was already traveling three hours each way to pastor his congregation! What a testimony of perseverance and God's sustaining grace.

A later update described Mesach walking with the help of sticks and looking forward to returning to RPI to complete the modules he had missed. We thank God for the progress reported in his recovery, while continuing to pray for his strength, his family, and his calling. His present health and course-completion status have not been confirmed by a newer update.

FOLLOWING MESACH BATEGANYA'S JOURNEY

Following His Journey

RPI continues to encourage and equip rural pastors through biblical discipleship, practical sustainability training, and ongoing relationships.

Pastor Mesach suffered a serious accident that broke his leg and interrupted his studies at RPI. During his recovery, he and his wife Sarah faced additional hardships, including the loss of their belongings in a robbery while away receiving medical care and rejection by relatives because he would not participate in ancestral-spirit practices. RPI staff and visiting pastors prayed for him and visited him through this difficult season.

In subsequent updates, Mesach expressed gratitude to God as he regained the ability to walk and began returning to his pastoral responsibilities. He also hoped to complete training modules missed because of the accident. Please continue praying for his family, his strength, and his faithful service; his present recovery and enrollment status have not been independently confirmed.

VOCATIONAL / SUSTAINABILITY / DISCIPLESHIP UPDATE

Entrepreneurship Training and Continued Discipleship

In September 2026, 20 RPI pastors and their wives completed entrepreneurship training in partnership with Ekisinga. The training provided practical instruction designed to help families develop sustainable sources of income while pastors continue faithfully serving their churches and communities.

The pastors also toured RPI's goat project as they prepare for future hands-on training. The project is one of the practical ways RPI is exploring opportunities that can help pastors and their families strengthen household sustainability.

Alongside vocational development, RPI continues providing discipleship, follow-up, encouragement, and practical training for graduate pastors as they apply what they have learned within their families, churches, and communities.

PRACTICAL SUSTAINABILITY TRAINING

Exploring Livelihoods Through Poultry

Poultry raising is another example of the practical livelihood opportunities RPI wants pastors and their families to explore. Learning about animal care, planning, and small-scale enterprise can help households consider sustainable sources of income alongside ministry.

Our goal is to combine practical skills and ongoing discipleship so financial pressure does not become a barrier to faithful service in rural communities.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE PROGRAM

RPI’s Goat Project: Practical Skills for Sustainable Ministry

RPI's goat project is one way we connect practical vocational learning with our long-term commitment to rural pastors. Goat raising and livestock management can offer pastors skills to explore ways of providing for their families while continuing to serve their congregations.

Through the Vocational / Sustainability / Discipleship Program, RPI seeks to pair ongoing discipleship with practical training that can help pastors build more stable livelihoods. The goal is not to replace biblical teaching, but to help reduce financial pressures that can make rural ministry difficult.

The goat project illustrates the practical sustainability opportunities within RPI’s program.

CONTINUING THE JOURNEY

More Than a Training Program

RPI's relationship with pastors continues beyond their initial biblical training. Through ongoing discipleship, encouragement, follow-up, and opportunities for practical sustainability training, participating pastors can continue growing as leaders while working toward stronger families, churches, and ministries.
