Sosan's Story
A pastor for approximately 26 years as of 2026, he has faced threats of death numerous times because of his faith. When he planted the current church at Kabalira village, a place formerly controlled by witches and wizards, it initially was the wives in the community that came to the Lord. With the consent of the local leaders, the men of the village made a pact to kill him. The assigned killers, three men, came to complete the mission but found him in prayer in the dirt-baked church at 3:00 in the morning. These men, coming under the power of the Holy Ghost, abandoned their machetes at the church entrance and left him unharmed.
Pastor Sosan is a father of a large family, including children he has welcomed into his home. His family has long shared in the sacrifices and hospitality of his ministry.
Coming face to face with death for his faith became common in Pastor Sosan's life. His would-be killers are now great friends … yet to come to the faith … but have sent their wives and children to be members of his congregation and have supported some church initiatives. Today, Kabalira village is transformed and Ps. Sosan is a well-respected elder who is consulted on many community matters.
A pastor of pastors, he has a very crucial role in his community as he leads five churches. RPI has worked alongside Pastor Sosan for many years. Today, he serves on the Ugandan staff as Skills Training Coordinator, helping develop practical vocational learning opportunities, including RPI’s goat project. In addition, Ps. Sosan's home has been our village mission base and all visiting teams have stayed at his house most times. We offer a deep thank you to his family, as they often sleep out the open and cold to make us comfortable.

Following His Journey
For many years Pastor Sosan and his family have welcomed RPI mission teams and served the rural churches around Kabalira. His commitment to biblical teaching and practical ministry continues through his work with RPI.
Family and church life: Previous updates reported that his wife and daughter had recovered from serious illness. Sosan also shared hopes of building a family home, concerns about children’s school tuition, and a desire for renewed spiritual growth in his church. We continue praying for these areas without assuming the earlier circumstances remain unchanged.
August 2026 accident and recovery: On August 25, Pastor Sosan was involved in a serious accident. Initial examinations found dislocations to his left knee and hand but no fractures or internal bleeding. By September 14 he had received further treatment for fluid and bleeding around his knee and had begun moving with crutches. Pastor Sosan is still recovering, and we invite you to pray for his healing and mobility.
Ministry and friendship: The close relationships Sosan has built with visiting mission teams are a special part of his journey. Anna first met him on her first Uganda mission trip when she was 12. After several trips back, they have become like family.

More Than a Training Program
RPI's relationship with pastors continues beyond their initial biblical training. Through ongoing discipleship, encouragement, follow-up, and opportunities for practical sustainability training, participating pastors can continue growing as leaders while working toward stronger families, churches, and ministries.
Vocational / Sustainability / Discipleship Update
In September 2026, 20 RPI pastors and their wives completed entrepreneurship training in partnership with Ekisinga. The training provided practical instruction designed to help families develop sustainable sources of income while pastors continue faithfully serving their churches and communities.
The pastors also toured RPI’s goat project as they prepare for future hands-on training. The project is one of the practical ways RPI is exploring opportunities that can help pastors and their families strengthen household sustainability.
Alongside vocational development, RPI continues providing discipleship, follow-up, encouragement, and practical training for graduate pastors as they apply what they have learned within their families, churches, and communities.
RPI’s Goat Project: Practical Skills for Sustainable Ministry
RPI’s goat project is one way we connect practical vocational learning with our long-term commitment to rural pastors. Goat raising and livestock management can offer pastors skills to explore ways of providing for their families while continuing to serve their congregations.
Through the Vocational / Sustainability / Discipleship Program, RPI seeks to pair ongoing discipleship with practical training that can help pastors build more stable livelihoods. The goal is not to replace biblical teaching, but to help reduce financial pressures that can make rural ministry difficult.
As RPI’s Skills Training Coordinator, Pastor Sosan helps oversee the development of the goat project as a practical training opportunity for rural pastors. His involvement connects biblical discipleship with opportunities to strengthen household sustainability.
