Sponsor NowPastor Fred Waiswa serves in Nakisenyi, Kamuli District. He shares a testimony of surviving a life-threatening battle with HIV/AIDS and of surrendering his life to Christ. His experience has shaped his gratitude for God’s grace and his desire to serve others.
Fred and his wife, Tumwebaze Betty, have been married for 34 years and have raised ten children. They also serve as leaders of men and women at the sub-county level in their hometown, an honor Fred regards as evidence of God’s grace.
Ministry has brought difficult challenges. Fred has faced disagreements with other pastors in his village and resistance from some members of his congregation who question his leadership and seek to take his position. After attending a Rural Pastors Institute conference in his village, he developed a strong desire for more training in pastoral ministry, leadership, Bible teaching, and family relationships.
Betty also sees the value of further training for Fred as a husband and father. Without steady employment, however, he has struggled to afford that education. Through RPI’s Vocational / Sustainability / Discipleship Program, pastors like Fred can continue growing in biblical understanding, family discipleship, and leadership. Recurring monthly investments support training for the whole program.

RPI’s vision extends beyond a pastor’s first year of biblical training. Through continued discipleship and practical vocational instruction, RPI seeks to help pastors strengthen their ability to provide for their families while serving their churches and communities.
Practical sustainability efforts are intended to complement, not replace, biblical teaching. They help pastors pursue more stable livelihoods and greater independence as they continue faithfully in ministry.
RPI’s relationship with pastors continues beyond their initial biblical training. Through ongoing discipleship, encouragement, follow-up, continued learning, and practical sustainability training, pastors can continue growing as leaders while working toward stronger families, churches, and ministries.
