Robert's Story

Pastor Robert was born to a Catholic father and a Muslim mother. Growing up, he attended both Catholic church services and Muslim mosque prayers. His spiritual journey changed when he visited a Bible-teaching church, heard the sermon, and gave his life to Christ.

Although he had professed faith, Robert continued in his former lifestyle, including frequenting nightclubs. Later, after an elderly man shared the gospel with him again, he recommitted his life to Christ. Seeing his pastor labor with little support, Robert began helping in the church. His calling to ministry became increasingly clear, and in 2015 he was officially commissioned to begin his ministry.

Pastoral leadership brought serious challenges. Some congregants considered him too young to preach and even walked out during his sermons. Neighboring churches falsely accused him of belonging to a cult and sacrificing people to build his church.

In 2023, Robert partnered with a city-based organization to hold a party for more than 200 children on the island. Some children, seeing cars for the first time, ran after the vehicles and became lost. Frightened parents believed the false accusations and threatened to destroy Robert’s home. Thankfully, members of the visiting organization found the children following their vehicles and returned them safely.

Despite these trials, Robert has held firmly to God’s promises and found encouragement in his faith. Although his calling is clear, he has not had formal ministry training. He supports himself through fishing and farming, but his income has not been sufficient to pay for further education.

Training through RPI can help equip Pastor Robert with biblical understanding and wisdom for leadership and ministry. Support for RPI’s pastoral education program helps make this training possible, strengthening pastors like Robert as they serve their churches and communities.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE PROGRAM

Vocational / Sustainability / Discipleship Update

In September 2026, 20 RPI pastors and their wives completed entrepreneurship training in partnership with Ekisinga. The training provided practical instruction designed to help families develop sustainable sources of income while pastors continue faithfully serving their churches and communities.

The pastors also toured RPI's goat project as they prepare for future hands-on training. The project is one of the practical ways RPI is exploring opportunities that can help pastors and their families strengthen household sustainability.

Alongside vocational development, RPI continues providing discipleship, follow-up, encouragement, and practical training for graduate pastors as they apply what they have learned within their families, churches, and communities.

RPI's relationship with pastors continues beyond their initial biblical training.
