Steven's Story

Pastor Steven is approximately 62 years old. He and his wife Rebecca have been married for approximately 32 years, and they have six children.

In 1986, Pastor Steven trusted Christ as his Savior and has been pastoring since 1991. He has served as an overseer and a pastor of pastors, including at Balawoli Center for Evangelism Church.

His greatest limitation has been the lack of formal education in his life. He dropped out of school at a very young age because his parents couldn’t raise the tuition money to send him to school. Although this became one of his greatest disadvantages in the ministry, it hasn’t stopped him from reaching out to his community.

His greatest desire is to use his training to equip his congregation and the other pastors under him. In the next generation, he wants the ministry and its legacy to be more rooted and established in the Lord.

With limited financial resources, this kind of pastoral training would have been beyond his means without support.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE PROGRAM

RPI's Growing Goat Project

RPI's goat project is one of the practical ways we are developing our Vocational / Sustainability / Discipleship Program. Through raising and caring for goats, we are creating opportunities for pastors to learn valuable agricultural skills that can help them better provide for their families.

The project continues to grow, with new baby goats being born at RPI! As the herd grows, so does the potential for this project to benefit more pastors and their families.

Our goal is to equip pastors with practical knowledge and sustainable opportunities that can strengthen their families and communities while allowing them to continue faithfully serving in ministry.

Vocational / Sustainability / Discipleship Update

In September 2026, 20 RPI pastors and their wives completed entrepreneurship training in partnership with Ekisinga. The training provided practical instruction designed to help families develop sustainable sources of income while pastors continue faithfully serving their churches and communities.

September 2026 Training Accomplishment: Pastor Steven Isabirye was one of 20 participants who completed Entrepreneurship Training with Ekisinga Ministries in September 2026.

The pastors also toured RPI's goat project as they prepare for future hands-on training. The project is one of the practical ways RPI is exploring opportunities that can help pastors and their families strengthen household sustainability.

Alongside vocational development, RPI continues providing discipleship, follow-up, encouragement, and practical training for graduate pastors as they apply what they have learned within their families, churches, and communities.

Practical Sustainability: Poultry Raising

Poultry raising is one example of the practical livelihood skills connected with RPI's sustainability emphasis. Learning how to care for chickens, manage costs, and explore local markets can help rural pastors and their families consider ways to supplement household income while continuing in ministry.

Pastor Steven has described using a shorter growing period when selling chickens, helping reduce the pressure of raising birds to maturity and opening additional market opportunities. The photograph below illustrates poultry-related sustainability work; it should not be taken as documentation of a specific RPI training session or proof of his participation in one.

CONTINUING THE JOURNEY

More Than a Training Program

RPI's relationship with pastors continues beyond their initial biblical training. Through ongoing discipleship, encouragement, follow-up, and opportunities for practical sustainability training, participating pastors can continue growing as leaders while working toward stronger families, churches, and ministries.
