John's Story

Pastor John is 48 years old and has been married to his wife, Janet, for 21 years. Together, they have nine children.

Upon coming to faith in Jesus Christ in 1999, Pastor John parted ways with a group of outlaws renowned for kidnapping young women for marriage, a practiced and acceptable custom in his culture. After receiving Christ as his Savior, Pastor John joined a church as a children’s teacher and was ultimately sent out in 2011 to plant a church in his own village located in the Nansololo Kakooge village of the Kamuli District. For two years, the new church met under a shade tree. The church has now grown to a congregation of 60 people.

Pastor John’s biggest struggle has been knowing how to pastor and handle the ministry. His lack of formal education in his background has made things very difficult for him. He is unable to speak or read English, which is primarily the language used in all theological schools. He is grateful that RPI is willing to work with him, despite his limited education, by teaching him both biblical knowledge and ministry.

Your sponsorship is enabling men like Pastor John to receive a solid biblical foundation and valuable leadership skills.

VOCATIONAL / SUSTAINABILITY / DISCIPLESHIP UPDATE

Entrepreneurship Training and Continued Discipleship

In September 2026, 20 RPI pastors and their wives completed entrepreneurship training in partnership with Ekisinga. The training provided practical instruction designed to help families develop sustainable sources of income while pastors continue faithfully serving their churches and communities.

The pastors also toured RPI’s goat project as they prepare for future hands-on training. The project is one of the practical ways RPI is exploring opportunities that can help pastors and their families strengthen household sustainability.

Alongside vocational development, RPI continues providing discipleship, follow-up, encouragement, and practical training for graduate pastors as they apply what they have learned within their families, churches, and communities.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE PROGRAM

RPI’s Goat Project: Practical Skills for Sustainable Ministry

RPI’s goat project is one way we connect practical vocational learning with our long-term commitment to rural pastors. Goat raising and livestock management can offer pastors skills to explore ways of providing for their families while continuing to serve their congregations.

Through the Vocational / Sustainability / Discipleship Program, RPI seeks to pair ongoing discipleship with practical training that can help pastors build more stable livelihoods. The goal is not to replace biblical teaching, but to help reduce financial pressures that can make rural ministry difficult.

The goat project illustrates the practical sustainability opportunities within RPI’s program. Pastor John’s individual involvement in this project has not been confirmed.

WHY WE INVEST IN SUSTAINABILITY

Strengthening Families While Serving in Ministry

Many rural pastors serve faithfully while facing significant financial pressures. RPI’s vocational sustainability efforts are designed to encourage practical skills, responsible stewardship, and opportunities for greater household stability so pastors can continue caring for their families and serving their churches.

This practical work accompanies, rather than replaces, the biblical teaching, discipleship, and pastoral encouragement at the heart of RPI’s ministry.

CONTINUING THE JOURNEY

More Than a Training Program

RPI's relationship with pastors continues beyond their initial biblical training. Through ongoing discipleship, encouragement, follow-up, and opportunities for practical sustainability training, participating pastors can continue growing as leaders while working toward stronger families, churches, and ministries.
