Joseph's Story

Pastor Joseph is 54 years old and has been married to his wife, Betty, for 26 years. Together, they have ten children.

Pastor Joseph came to faith in Christ in 1990 and became a pastor in 2001. He began by leading a group of believers who didn’t have a pastor in their village. Pastor Joseph was fortunate to get some education, unlike many of the rural pastors in Uganda. His education opened doors for him to serve on many leadership councils in his region. Pastor Joseph has a diploma in theology and has recently become an overseer and a pastor of pastors.

Pastor Joseph enrolled in the Rural Pastors Institute training as a mentoring pastor and is there to represent a large group of village churches from his region. He said, “Leading many prompted me to search for more. If the people under me are growing, I ought to grow more too, because they come to me for advice and counsel.” Pastor Joseph says he has found the Rural Pastors Institute experience unique and completely new from anything he has experienced before in his training.

Pastor Joseph serves at the Nansololo Pentecostal church in the remote village of Nansololo and has a congregation of 15 members. He provides for his family on an annual income of $1,577.

VOCATIONAL / SUSTAINABILITY / DISCIPLESHIP UPDATE

Entrepreneurship Training and Continued Discipleship

In September 2026, 20 RPI pastors and their wives completed entrepreneurship training in partnership with Ekisinga. The training provided practical instruction designed to help families develop sustainable sources of income while pastors continue faithfully serving their churches and communities.

The pastors also toured RPI's goat project as they prepare for future hands-on training. The project is one of the practical ways RPI is exploring opportunities that can help pastors and their families strengthen household sustainability.

Alongside vocational development, RPI continues providing discipleship, follow-up, encouragement, and practical training for graduate pastors as they apply what they have learned within their families, churches, and communities.

PRACTICAL SUSTAINABILITY TRAINING

Exploring Sustainable Livelihoods Through Poultry

Poultry raising is one example of a practical livelihood skill that may help rural pastors and their families work toward greater financial stability. RPI's Vocational / Sustainability / Discipleship Program seeks to combine continued spiritual growth with opportunities to explore income-producing skills and responsible stewardship.

These practical opportunities are intended to help reduce household financial pressures while pastors remain committed to serving their churches. The image illustrates poultry as a sustainability focus within the broader program, not a confirmed activity of Pastor Joseph Musana.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE PROGRAM

RPI’s Goat Project: Practical Skills for Sustainable Ministry

RPI's goat project is one way we connect practical vocational learning with our long-term commitment to rural pastors. Goat raising and livestock management can offer pastors skills to explore ways of providing for their families while continuing to serve their congregations.

Through the Vocational / Sustainability / Discipleship Program, RPI seeks to pair ongoing discipleship with practical training that can help pastors build more stable livelihoods. The goal is not to replace biblical teaching, but to help reduce financial pressures that can make rural ministry difficult.

The goat project illustrates the practical sustainability opportunities within RPI’s program; individual students' involvement with the goat project has not been confirmed.

CONTINUING THE JOURNEY

More Than a Training Program

RPI's relationship with pastors continues beyond their initial biblical training. Through ongoing discipleship, encouragement, follow-up, and opportunities for practical sustainability training, participating pastors can continue growing as leaders while working toward stronger families, churches, and ministries.
